Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton Review

Are you interested in a timepiece that is about both substance and style? If yes, then why not consider a good skeleton watch?

By displaying wheels, bridges, and gears that keep track of the time on your wrists, skeleton watches are unique and attractive! These types of watches are also called the “bare-bones” or “openwork.” Manufacturers of these watch models even give specific attention to the inner workings of the watch, beyond the dial, and hour, minute, and second markers.

In today’s post, let’s take a look at one of the most unique skeleton watch works– the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton Watch.

Before the end of this Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton Review, you’ll know whether it’s worth your investment or not, what other people are saying about it, and what’s unique about it vs. other skeletonized models!

TLDR: Review of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton

The Hamilton Watch Company is known for its iconic and innovative watches with Swiss precision and American spirit. The brand is also no stranger when it comes to openwork watches, such as the Khaki Field Skeleton Auto and Ventura Skeleton Limited Edition.

Case and design

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton Watch is the brand’s newest multi-level dial that formed part of their open-worked watch collection. What’s unique about this watch is that it has an iconic spiky H logo over the Swiss automatic.

We believe that it is one of the most well-thought and purpose-built skeletonized watches yet. It is very eye-catching, refined, and one of the best overall watches offered within its price range.

The stainless steel of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic is a contemporary 40mm in diameter with a polished bezel and sides. When viewed directly at the front, the mid-section of the case seemed like a hair wider than its bezel. Then, the lugs create an added step where they connect the case sides.

Its signed crown is what we consider to be an ideal size for a 40mm timepiece. The lighter silver material on the watch’s dial also compliments the shape of the lugs and the thin profile of the open-worked watch.

Movement: H-10-S

The movement of this watch is Hamilton’s Calibre H-10-S automatic that is based on the ETA C07.111. If a traditional movement is the heart of a regular skeleton watch, ETA movements would be the core of the Swiss luxury timepiece industry. ETA is a fellow Swatch Group brand and has played a large part in defining the Swiss watch industry as it is today.

Through improvement of the kinematic chain from the barrel and suppressing the watch’s escapement regulator, the H-10-S movement has the capacity to store double the power of standard movements. Because of it, this skeletonized watch has an extended power reserve of up to 80 hours.

As for Hamilton’s Jazzmaster, the ETA is exclusively used by Hamilton, giving the entire package a very 1960 vintage look. The melding of the skeleton Hamilton Viewmatic dial elements and movement is edgy and sophisticated, making it a real aesthetic winner.

Clasp and strap

The skeleton Hamilton Viewmatic also comes with a black 20 mm (width) x 7.5 inches (length) band with an alligator pattern as well as a stainless steel pin buckle to secure the watch to your wrist. Since this watch has a ladies’ version with a slightly different dial or design to the gents’ version, you can also interchange the straps with a five-row stainless steel bracelet.

Pros

  • Refined stainless steel case
  • A stylish combination of a skeletonized black dial with silver color hour markers
  • Black calf leather strap with pin buckle
  • Comes with an anti-reflective coating
  • With an extended power reserve of up to 80 hours

  • Features a sapphire exhibition case back
  • Distinct Hamilton design and is made to affirm the wearer’s individuality

Cons

  • None

Is it worth it?

The skeleton Hamilton Viewmatic watch is worth it to add in your watch collection. It has a prominent look of a skeleton watch that combines formal harmony and technical refinement, making this watch ideal to be worn on formal occasions.

What Do People Say About it?

skeletonized Hamilton Jazzmaster

Amazon

An Amazon customer gave the skeletonized Hamilton Jazzmaster a 5-star rating, saying “This is my second Hamilton watch. I bought this watch because I have always been interested in a skeleton watch, but I wasn’t happy about most of the choices available… There is also a ladies’ version of this watch with the same movement, but a slightly different face to it… This watch can be wound by wrist movement and a winder, but can also be manually wound if you push the side button in as far as it goes and twist up.”

Another Amazon customer is happy with his purchase. “This [Jazzmaster] is an excellent watch. I own several other Hamiltons and this watch always gains complements and works wonderfully, this is my favorite watch to wear on a daily basis,” he reviewed.

YouTube

DiscountShop reviews the Hamilton American Classic Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton Gent on YouTube, saying, “This is really a beautiful watch. The H20s Hamilton automotive movement really echoes the skeleton theme and the craftsmanship is topnotch. It’s also relentlessly accurate…It’s a very comfortable size, it’s not too heavy, not too big, not too small and it’s not too wide either.”

Reddit

In one Reddit thread about this Jazzmaster watch from Hamilton, one participant reviews, “This was a gift from my Grandmother who wanted to give me something nice I would hold dear and associate with her. Needless to say, she was successful…As soon as I wound this watch up for the first time I fell in love, watching the intricate cogs and gears, feeling the pendulum occasionally swinging on my wrist, and hearing the quiet but ever-present ticking.”

Another commented about this skeleton watch, “I got mine for college graduation! It’s such a nice gift, definitely going to be something I’ll hold on to hand down to my kids one day.”

The Verdict: Should I Buy It?

The Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton Gent Auto surely leaves nothing to the imagination with its skeletonized dial and is worth buying. It comes in a black leather strap but you also have the option of using a steel bracelet.

It features a sapphire exhibition case back, is fitted with a self-winding mechanical movement, and is shipped with all the relevant accessories in a box. It’s even no surprise to us that the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic skeleton watch gained good reviews online. And best of all, it comes in at an affordable price range! Some stores retail it at around $1,195.
