With the 5th annual ONLY WATCH event fast approaching, take a glimpse at of one of the 33 single original timepieces, specially designed by fine watchmakers, for the charity auction to benefit the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy.
Jaquet Droz’s The Loving Butterfly features a cherub riding in a carriage pulled by a butterfly. Originally designed in the 18th century, the Cherub is an emblem of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods, while the butterfly serves as a universal symbol of beauty, lightness and freedom. In the background painted tone on tone, is the palace of Monaco. This romantic design decorates the face of the Petit Heure Minute.
Jaquet Droz craftsmen combined their best skills to create this unique piece. Engraved and then painted, the gold décor was first worked like a bas-relief before being applied to the Grand Feu enamel dial – giving the timepiece a sense of volume. The butterfly’s gold wire legs are suspended and wave slightly with each wrist movement. Housed in a 43mm diameter yellow gold case, the Loving Butterfly has an exposed oscillating weight.
The ONLY WATCH is engraved on the case to remind the owner of the special event. The Loving Butterfly will take part in the ONLY WATCH international tour and then will be sold during this 5th event in Monaco at the end of September.
