Born and raised in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Pierre Jaquet Droz was a master of mechanics and a pioneer in haute horlogerie jewellery watches.
Established in 1738, the Jaquet Droz brand continues to be inspired by the masterpieces of Pierre Jaquet Droz, including the exceptional automatons he created such as animated dolls and mechanical birds – in this spirit, the brand continues to create one-off and very limited edition items. The movements of Pierre Jaquet surpassed anything that had been seen before, with asymmetric displays, advanced mechanical refinement and sophisticated artwork still the defining characteristics of this high-end luxury brand.
Jaquet Droz’s leading model, La Grande Seconde Enamel, was launched in 2002, its design inspired by a pocket watch created in the 18th century. This watch demonstrates the art of Grand Feu enamelling and can be customised to be set with precious jewels and unique materials such as natural minerals. In 2011 La Grand Seconde was updated to feature the tourbillon which sits visibly on the watch at 12 o’clock.
