Richard Mille is a brand famed for its bonkers watches – it eponymous founder famously threw one of his super-expensive timepieces at a door to prove how durable they were despite their lightness – what it is not as well known for is designing watches for women.
However, like many brands, this has been changing. It created an incredible spider tourbillon with Natalie Portman, which was premiered at high-end, invite-only watch show SIHH and now it has added Florida-born pro-golfer Cristie Kerr to its roster of sportsman. A roster which was, up until now, rather XY chromosome heavy.
Although Kerr, who is now sporting an RM 007 in titanium on her wrist, may not be familiar to those who don’t follow golf, she will definitely be a sportsperson to watch, as Mr Mille has a knack of picking ambassadors on the cusp of fame. It’s hard to image people thought “Rafa who?” when he first slapped a tourbillon on a young Spanish player’s wrist but they did.
At the time of writing, Kerr was the first American woman to top the World Golf Ranking, has never been ranked outside the top thirteen in the World Golf Rankings and has the highest career earnings of any female American Golfer. She also does an amazing amount for breast cancer charity, Birdies for Breast Cancer. Brains, grit and compassion – sounds like our kind of woman.
