London gets its first-ever mono-brand Seiko boutique on Brompton Road London
Despite having 76 boutiques worldwide, Seiko has never opened its own store in London. That oversight was rectified on August 10 2017, when it opened the doors of its gorgeous two-storey flagship store on Brompton Road in the heart of Knightsbridge.
Now not only can you get your hands on all the latest watches from the Astron, Prospex, Presage and Premier collections, but you will also be able to peruse the largest collection of Grand Seiko watches outside of Japan.
Originally launched in 1960, and so named because it was the best watch Seiko could make at the time, it has become a brand that watch connoisseurs are obsessed about, partly due to the fact that it is really difficult to buy outside of Seiko’s native country.
Which is why it is so incredible that, for the first time, the largest collection of Grand Seikos outside of Japan, including such jaw-dropping masterpieces as the hand-made Eichi, Minute Repeater and Fugaku Tourbillon (below) will be available just mere steps from Knightsbridge tube station.
The store christened in typical Japanese style, with the breaking open of a barrel of sake, with which radio and TV presenter, comedian and self-confessed Japanophile Jonathan Ross was on hand to assist.
Speaking at the opening Mr Kinya Iwami, managing director for Seiko UK Ltd said: “To have a Seiko London Boutique has been a key focus for us for some time, and we are delighted to have found the ideal location situated in the heart of Knightsbridge.”
Visitors to the boutique will not only be treated to an unprecedented selection of very cool watches but they will be able to discover more about the brand’s 136-year history and learn about the phenomenal amount of watchmaking skills housed at Seiko HQ.
Brompton Road might not yet have the pull of Bond Street, when it comes to watches, but Seiko’s got more than enough horological clout to convince people to take a couple of extra tube stops to SW3.
Seiko’s boutique is at 57 Brompton Road, London, SW3 1DP.
