Tory Burch has been a major player in the US fashion scene since her brand first launched in 2004. Famous for her preppy-boho look, her fashion lifestyle brand sells everything from clothing and shoes to accessories, beauty products and now watches.
Much of the inspiration comes from Burch’s own life and that of her mother, Reva, who famously dated Steve McQueen and Marlon Brando and the same is true of the watches.
There is the Tory, which, like its namesake has a pretty but tomboyish appeal. The Reva, after her mother, is a decadent 1970s style collection, while the Buddy, after her father, exudes retro sophistication. For those looking for something graphic and modern there’s the Izzie, named after her stepdaughter, while the Sawyer is inspired by a vintage Fossil bangle from 1986. She didn’t realise it was a Fossil bangle until she brought it into the meeting with Fossil, who distribute the watch collection, and the CEO went and found the original in the archives.
Burch has also launched a limited edition piece, which is designed as a unique piece of jewellery, with elements drawn from the collection archive. Only 500 were produced and the case back is signed by Tory Burch and numbered.
Did You Know? In April 2014, the Obama Administration named Burch an inaugural member of the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship, a group of successful American businesspeople committed to developing the next generation of entrepreneurs in the U.S. and around the world.
Brand Friends: None for the watches as yet, but Burch’s clothing has been endorsed by Oprah Winfrey and worn by the cast of Gossip Girl.
