Famous for  Before Beckham, Breitling was known for creating the world’s first self-winding chronograph movement

Established by Leon Breitling in 1884, Breitling is known as a pioneer in pilots’ watches, crafting outstanding sports watches with an aviation focus. Seen most recently on the wrists of international sports superstar David Beckham and aviation fanatic John Travolta, the watch brand is enjoying a huge surge of popularity right now – add platinum casings and diamonds on the bezel, and prices can soar upwards of £100,000.

Breitling is a leader of wrist chronographs – it released the world’s first self-winding chronograph movement and equips all watches with a certified chronometer.

In 1952, Breitling launched a model that has achieved cult status, a chronograph watch with a circular slide rule for airline pilots – the Navitimer, now the oldest mechanical chronograph in continuous production. The Navitimer was further developed in the 1960’s when astronaut Scott Carpenter requested the addition of a 24-hour dial, owing to the lack of distinction between day and night in space. This edition –  Cosmonaute Avitimer – accompanied Carpenter into space in 1962.

This family business continues to be 100 percent Swiss Made and is one of the last remaining independent Swiss watch brands – creating timepieces for both men and women.
