The new Bold is not only bang on trend for the season with its monochrome aesthetic, but also hugely adaptable via its reversible strap. Winner.

Having never visited Switzerland or enjoyed its lovely snowy-mountain-topped scenery, I have to say I was naive about how iconic the Swiss Railway clock face was. It can be seen at every railway station across Switzerland (beats the luminous, 24hr digital displays we have at National Rail hey?) and of course on every Mondaine watch. Each piece from Mondaine is reflective of its own design with the brilliantly bold, red second hand which I have grown to admire, against the crisp backdrop of the white face.

Amazingly its super modern looking design was created over 60 years ago. There is certainly something to be said for its Art Deco inspired markers and super symmetrical round dials. Not a brand I would normally take notice of until the face appeared on my iOS6 update!

At first glance

*WARNING – This review contains serious lashings of love, lust and general admiration

Launched at the ever anticipated Baselworld watch fair this year I introduce to you my new object of desire, the Mondaine Bold (fanfare). Simplicity, adaptability and elegance, are all qualities of a watch that I will wear over and over again. As someone with a huge passion for all things fashion, footwear, handbags and shoes (some may call it an obsession) it is vital that when I buy a watch it will go with more than a few outfits from my billowing wardrobe. The new Bold is not only bang on trend for the season with its monochrome aesthetic, but also hugely adaptable via its reversible strap. Winner.

Up close and personal

The tone on tone dial is one of my favourite features – the white version features white markers and the black edition features black markers – a perfect black or white-out that makes a bold statement to any follower of fashion. I always stumble across gorgeous black watches and stunning white watches but constantly face the dilemma, what if I’m wearing the wrong shade? Well this little piece of heaven means I never have that problem. The easy to change strap can be reversed to match the moment of monochrome you desire.

On the wrist

As a fan of oversized watches, the dial is a fair size at 35mm. It sits perfectly on my wrist as I watch the bright red seconds tick by. The case is elegant without lugs and although it isn’t neon in its colouring this is a watch that certainly caught the eye of more than one. Wearing it from office to bar, supermarket to Zumba it turned onlookers slightly green with envy, not to mention my design friends who could only ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ at its beauty.

So, what would I change? What wasn’t quite right? I honestly, hand on heart, wouldn’t change a thing. Swiss Made, elegant, stylish and with a touch of ‘watch me go’. It suits a young, savvy shopper, fashionista like me down to a tee!
