Montblanc P

There’s something a little different about this gorgeous Montblanc Bohème Moongarden watch. Beyond its elegant hands, classic cream dial and black leather strap there are hidden depths to discover.

If you’ve been searching for a calendar watch that’s sophisticated but special, we think this should be high up on your wish list, which is why we got our hands on this lovely diamond-studded dial version to tell you more…

The watch

Montblanc upped its watch stakes in 2008, and since then it’s been producing some really confident, elegant designs, including the Montblanc Bohème Perpetual Calendar.

Outwardly, the new addition to the Bohème collection, the Moongarden, doesn’t break the mould, with its traditional 36mm stainless steel case, Arabic numerals and diamond indices. However, look a little closer and there are some interesting additions, like the small onion crown rarely seen on women’s designs. Turn it over and there’s also a sapphire crystal case back exposing the automatic movement, which was created especially for this new addition to the Montblanc stable.

What’s interesting

Montblanc Boheme Moongarden P 3

There’s something romantic about the sunburst guilloché enamel on Moongarden’s dial, but what really gets the heart racing are the two separate apertures – one for the phases of the moon at the 6 o’clock position and a second crescent displaying the months.

However, instead of just revealing the standard old ‘January’, ‘February’, ‘March’, this watch opts for a more poetic approach, with ‘Rose Moon’, ‘Hunter Moon’ and others linking back to the names given to the moon’s phases by our ancestors. This version also has a date ring on the outer edge of the dial, which is indicated by the hand with the red moon-shaped end.

However, if that version is just too complicated or if you’re in the mood for more diamonds, then there are two other simpler or more sparkly options as you can see below.

Look and feel

With the dial detailing, complications, diamonds and Arabic numerals this watch could have veered into busy territory with too much going on. Instead, Montblanc has cleverly created something elegant and playful, but still completely legible.

The black alligator leather strap is also scoring points with us, giving it a slight vintage twist in comparison to a stainless steel bracelet strap. The piece is also available with a diamond-set bezel and in 18ct rose gold with diamonds, in case you’re feeling in the mood for a little extra sparkle.

Wear it

We love the fact that this watch with its classic appearance has more to offer than meets the eye. It’s this playfulness that we associate with Cate Blanchett who’s not afraid to take risks with colours, textures and styles but still oozes elegance.

We’ll be pairing our Moongarden with considered tailoring, like a Stella McCartney printed jacket, a texture-clash pencil skirt and some black heels with a difference.
