The addition of diamonds doesn’t detract from the simplicity of the design, rather it adds a touch of femininity

Famous for its high-tech products and use of special materials, like ceramic, Tissot is most likely a name you’d recognise even if you can’t recall ever seeing one. If, like me, you are a bit of a speed freak then you may actually know its female ambassador, NASCAR racing driver, Danica Patrick (oh how I long to be her for at least a day behind the wheel).

The brand has been around since 1853 and is part of the luxury Swiss watchmaking stable and is credited with the first ever plastic, stone, mother-of-pearl and wood watches. Tissot’s latest innovation is the T-Touch with touch screen technology.

At first glance

I instantly liked this watch, yes it’s smaller than I’m used to at 28mm (as an advocate of the boyfriend style due to my larger than average bones) but the two-tone grey/black looks elegant on the wrist and is the perfect watch to take you from day to night – working just as well with jeans and a t-shirt as it does with a LBD. According to the Tissot website, Cera is a girl’s name meaning ‘fiery ones’ and aptly the first half of the word ceramic, one of the materials from which it is made. Ceramic has become a hugely popular material in watchmaking in recent years since the launch of Chanel’s original J12 model in 2000.

Up close and personal

There are no complications to contend with here, the crown serves only the one function, setting the time but does come with the addition of a black ceramic cabochon – a nice little touch. The overall design is sleek and fits wonderfully with the trend for monochrome; it is also available in white and with a square dial option.  The black dial features simple indices at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock with diamonds making up the remainder. The addition of diamonds doesn’t detract from the simplicity of the design, rather it adds a touch of femininity. The strap is fastened with a butterfly clasp activated by push-buttons and is reassuringly robust. I get the feeling that no matter how wildly you flail your arms around on the dance floor, this watch is not going to budge.

On the wrist

Comprising a stainless steel and ceramic mix, the first thing I noticed when trying the Cera for the first time, was that it was not as cold as a purely stainless steel bracelet. Perhaps an odd thing to note but considering the British weather it was nice not to have that shock of metal on skin. The second thing that struck me was that although the watch is weighty, it fitted snugly on my wrist. All-in-all, as well as being a nice looking piece, if comfort is paramount then the Cera is definitely one to consider.

In my opinion, this watch is a fantastic all-rounder, just as at home in the office as it is at a party. With Swiss Made on the dial you can be assured of quality craftsmanship. The watch also comes with a 2 year warranty from Tissot and is water resistant to 30 metres.
